Obama Finalizes Arms Control Deal With Russia and Medvedev

With the initial steps to make good on a promise to proliferate all nuclear arms President Obama today finalized last arrangements with his Russian counterpart Dmitri Medvedev on a new arms reduction treaty. They will be both flying to Prague for the treaty signing ceremony on April 8.

The new treaty will reduce the binding limit on deployed strategic nuclear warheads by more than one-quarter, and on launchers by half. It will reestablish an inspection and verification regime, replacing one that expired in December.
